Project Open Source | Open Acccess
Project Open Source|Open Access was a University of Toronto initiative to develop a networked community of scholars, students and members of the broader community interested in the phenomenon of open source and open access. This cross-divisional, tri-campus project was launched in November 2004 with a two-and-a-half year grant from the Provost's Academic Initiatives Fund (AIF) to the Knowledge Media Design Institute (KMDI) . The project gained a sound footing during this first phase with a rich schedule of events – seminars, panels, and workshops covering a broad range of topics – and a resoundingly successful student experience program. Our brochure provides more information on this phase of the project. Also see Project OS|OA's archived website.
With the networked community well-established, phase II of the project focused on research. We identified Open Scholarship as the theme for ongoing development, but we will also continue to build on faculty research strengths and interests in the design, development and use of open source environments for collaboration and learning; in institutional innovation; in OS business models; in open access journal publishing; and in the evaluation of journal impact factors.
